44Net Portal Ticket Party was a Success!In an effort to help eliminate our portal ticket backlog, ARDC held a Ticket Party on October 16, where folks from our 44Net community volunteered to join staff in closing portal tickets. In about 2.5 hours, we were able to significantly reduce the 996 open tickets we had at the beginning of the month to 316, most of which are awaiting information from users. We want to extend a major thank you to all of our volunteers who showed up to our Ticket Party, along with folks who attended our training session earlier in the month:
We couldn’t have done this without all of you! If any of you are interested in becoming a Ticket Handler, please reach out at contact@ardc.net, and we’ll be happy to give you information on next steps. Grantee UpdatesDeep Space Exploration Society (DSES) Open House
Image credit: Bill Miller (KC0FHN) The Deep Space Exploration Society (DSES) held their 9th annual Open House on October 5. More than 100 attendees came out to the Paul Plishner Radio and Space Sciences Center near Haswell, CO to tour their site, which included the grand opening of their new operation center building, funded by a grant from ARDC. Not only did attendees get to see EME demos in the new building, they also got to tour their bunker to see demos of HF operation at their K0PRT club station. All in all, the Open House was a success, and DSES hopes they are able to inspire their audience to learn more about radio science! ARRL Teachers Institute Grantee: Staten Island Technical High School Robotics TeamThe ARRL Teachers Institute on Wireless Technology, funded in part by a grant from ARDC and run by Steve Goodgame K5ATA, aims to equip and train teachers on wireless technology to use in their classrooms. Early last month, the Institute’s grantees from the Staten Island Technical High School Robotics Team were invited to have their robot throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Staten Island FerryHawks minor league baseball game. Immediately before the game, the group faced some last-minute hardware issues, along with a destroyed main servo wiring system. Utilizing simplex, the team worked together to get their robot back online to successfully deliver the first pitch! Schuyler joined ARDC on October 1. He has a history in open source, ham radio / wireless tech, and engineering management, and he’s worked in both corporate and nonprofit environments, all together making him uniquely qualified for this important role. …more

Donni has been a member of the Conduct Review Committee (CRC) for almost a year. In being on this committee, he states “I enjoy the fact that as a whole, the community continues to do a great job of coming together. And on times where the community is not aligned, we can impartially help to make sure we’re all on the same page with our words and actions to continue to help build and grow the hobby.” Outside of ARDC, you can find him spending time with his two small children, either playing outside, making art, or slowly introducing them to the world of radio and electronics!
