The Sarasota Military Academy (SMA), founded in 2002, is a tuition-free, nonprofit military public charter school located in Sarasota, Florida, serving both middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) students. SMA is dedicated to equipping cadets with the skills, values, and education needed to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

With ARDC grant funding, SMA will launch a comprehensive amateur radio program to enhance STEM education and career readiness for its cadets. The academy will offer three for-credit science electives focused on amateur radio operations and licensing, giving students the opportunity to earn their amateur radio licenses. The grant will also provide the resources necessary to build a modern radio station, ensuring the program’s success from the outset.
