Grant: Satellite Station Upgrades and Replacements
Date: November 2024
Amount: $4,000
K5UTD, the University of Texas at Dallas Amateur Radio Club, is a student-led organization dedicated to introducing university students to amateur radio. With 20 active members, the club offers a hands-on learning space and a club hamshack, enabling students to engage with the hobby without needing expensive personal equipment. Many members live in dorms, so the club’s station is designed to be an accessible resource for students to experience radio firsthand.
With the grant, K5UTD plans to upgrade its equipment, replacing outdated radios and antennas to improve performance and make the station more user-friendly. These upgrades will help attract new members, support students in obtaining their ham radio licenses, and provide opportunities for research projects involving satellite communications.
