Grant: K2BSA Operations 2023 National Jamboree
Date: September 2022
Amount: $31,683
The K2BSA Amateur Radio Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that operates to support Radio Scouting activities and is considered the amateur radio station for the Boy Scouts of America’s National Council. It is the trustee for the K2BSA call sign, supports Jamboree on the Air and other Scouting events, and operates at the National Scout Jamboree through a demonstration station, teaching the Radio Merit Badge, conducting an ARDF/Foxhunting course, and other amateur radio activities during the course of the Jamboree. Amateur radio has been a part of the Jamboree experience since at least 1953, and K2BSA has been in operation at the Jamboree since 1977. Funding for previous events has been handled by Scouts BSA, but under the current conditions of the national program, the K2BSA operation has been deemed an external program for the 2023 National Jamboree. This effectively removed funding to handle crucial program items such as a commercial tent structure, tables, chairs, dividers, computers, TVs, pod rental and such. Grant funds from ARDC will fund the K2BSA Operations at the 2023 National Jamboree located at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia, July 19–28, 2023.
