Grant: A state-of-the art operating position for SIGNALS – The museum of Information Explosion, PHASE B

Date: November 2024
Amount: $7,008

SIGNALS – The Museum of Information Explosion showcases the evolution of information technology, from its early beginnings to modern digital signal processing. The museum features an extensive collection of antique telephone, telegraph, phonograph, radio, and television equipment, along with related ephemera, highlighting the contributions of inventors, developers, and users who have shaped the field. A key feature is its operational Amateur Radio Station, which demonstrates both historic and modern ham radio communication methods.

With the ARDC grant, SIGNALS Museum plans to enhance the K4MIE ham shack by adding new equipment to expand its educational offerings. These upgrades will include satellite communication capabilities, the installation of a KiwiSDR web node for global listening, and improved training tools for new operators. A new display will also show real-time global ham radio activity and other communication data, helping visitors understand the evolution of radio technology.
