Grant: Amateur Radio Community Outreach & Support
Date: November 2024
Amount: $19,097
Artisan’s Asylum is a nonprofit makerspace dedicated to providing a community where individuals can learn, create, and build through DIY fabrication. They offer tools, training, and programs to local residents and schools, with a strong emphasis on fostering creativity, STEM skills, and community engagement. Their mission is to empower individuals to develop their talents and contribute to the vibrancy of their communities.
With the ARDC grant, Artisan’s Asylum will expand its Urban Ham Radio Center of Excellence (COE) to further support the Boston MetroWest ham radio community. The grant will enable them to offer hands-on education and training to local schools and amateur radio enthusiasts. They will introduce students to ham radio through special events, classroom activities, and follow-up classes that guide them toward earning their ham licenses. Additionally, they will support licensed but inexperienced hams through classes, helping them build confidence and skills in digital radio protocols and on-air operations.
