The Big Bend Amateur Radio Club (BBARC) of Hancock County, Illinois, has been promoting and supporting amateur radio in the local community for over 20 years. The club’s mission is to expand knowledge of amateur radio and electronics, guide collaboration among radio operators, and provide a reliable communication system for civil defense and disaster emergencies.

With the ARDC grant, BBARC plans to establish a new VHF digital repeater in Elvaston, Illinois, significantly expanding amateur radio coverage across Hancock County and into parts of Iowa and Missouri. This repeater will improve communication in a region that is currently underserved, particularly during emergencies such as flooding or severe weather.
