Grant: Go-Box portable operating equipment to demonstrate effectiveness of amateur radio during natural disasters

Date: November 2024
Amount: $9,506

The Cross Roads Ham Radio Club (CRHRC) is an amateur radio group on the Texas Gulf Coast focused on emergency communications and supporting local events. The club’s volunteers provide critical communication during disasters, such as hurricanes, and educate the public about the role of amateur radio in emergencies.

With the grant, CRHRC plans to acquire portable radio equipment to enhance emergency response. The club will build two “Go-Boxes” equipped with HF, VHF, and UHF transceivers, powered by both AC and battery backup, ensuring reliable operation during power outages. This upgrade will improve disaster communications and increase public awareness of amateur radio’s value in emergencies.
