Grant: Radio Catalog: Ham Radio Software Preservation and Restoration

Date: February 2024
Amount: $11,518

The San Diego Repeater Association WB6WLV was found in the 1960’s and is dedicated to providing reliable open amateur radio repeaters for the wider Ham community. The repeaters cover San Diego, the Imperial Counties, and parts of Baja California, Mexico.

The Radio Catalog project aims to build a software catalog to aggregate many long-standing, open source ham software projects into code repositories using git, a modern source control management system, and the Digital Library of Amateur Radio & Communications (DLARC) archive. This will provide easy, open access to source code that would otherwise be scattered or lost. It ensures the legacy of numerous pioneers of the hobby who spent countless hours to build new software. New Hams can continue to innovate from these projects instead of starting from scratch.
