Grant: Synergy in Research: a PhD Studentship for enhancing real-time performance in digital communications using machine learning

Date: April 2024
Amount: £153,234

Established in 1904, the University of Leeds is a major UK institution and a member of the Russell Group of leading research-intensive universities. Its research covers a range of areas, including algorithms, display technologies for clinical diagnosis, energy-efficient data centers, and data visualization. The School collaborates with the Alan Turing Institute and has over 200 PhD students enrolled in its program.

This project aims to support a PhD student researching the interplay between artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and real-time distributed (RTD) systems. The research methodology involves collecting a comprehensive dataset to train ML models, which will then guide transmission parameters for improved success rates. By leveraging amateur radio for data collection and experimentation, the project not only aims to advance wireless communication technology but also to provide amateur radio operators with useful AI/ML insights.
