Grant: Valley Linking Project

Date: June 2024
Amount: $8,950

The Voice of Idaho Amateur Radio Club (VOI) is one of the largest amateur radio clubs in the Pacific Northwest. With over 45 years of affiliation with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), VOI is recognized as an ARRL Special Service club, underscoring its dedication to community service and education in amateur radio.

The Voice of Idaho Amateur Radio Club (VOI) received this grant to address significant communication gaps within the amateur radio community across Southwest Idaho. By creating a wide-area repeater system, the club aims to enhance VHF/UHF communication among operators, which is currently hindered by infrequent use of existing repeaters. This lack of connectivity not only diminishes operator interaction but also discourages newcomers from engaging in the hobby. The grant will facilitate the establishment of a centralized control system, allowing VOI to manage and link repeaters from a location near Boise, ensuring reliable access for all users, including those in remote areas where cell service is inadequate.
