Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC) – https://www.ardc.net – is a California-based private foundation with roots in amateur radio and internet communication technology. Our mission is to support, promote, and enhance digital communication and broader communication science and technology, to promote Amateur Radio, scientific research, experimentation, education, development, open access, and innovation in information and communication technology. We do this through grantmaking and administering a block of IP address space freely available to the amateur radio community.

ARDC seeks an enthusiastic administrative professional with an interest in marketing and communications to join our team and support the foundation’s operations in both grantmaking and organization of the 44Net IP address space. An ideal candidate will be active in technology communities – particularly those related to amateur radio, digital communications science, free/libre open source software, and DIY culture.

This role provides support primarily for ARDC’s staff, with some support for our Board of Directors and volunteers. The position reports to our Operations Manager and works closely with our Communications Manager.

Duties

Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director, Staff, Board Members, and Volunteers
  • Act as primary point of contact for general inquiries, including via phone, postal mail, and email
  • Calendar management, including scheduling and blocking, agendas, Zoom set-up, or other preparation
  • Record notes and minutes / meeting notes; maintain and publish action items
  • Purchase office supplies and printed materials
  • Perform clerical duties, such as supervising document filing and organizing in GitLab and Google Drive
  • Support the organization and planning of events, including online and in-person gatherings
  • Support volunteer recruitment and organization
  • Support general Human Resources administration, such as writing benefit notices, responding to policy questions, completing Verification of Employment requests, etc.

Marketing & Communications

  • Creating web content, such as descriptions for grants, blog posts, and web copy
  • Keep our community informed through social media posting and creating our monthly newsletter
  • Photo management, including collection of photo releases
  • Support with and/or development of presentation and official materials, such as internal and external reports development

Required Knowledge & Skills

To do this job well, the person in this role needs to have:

  • Familiarity with and involvement in amateur radio, including the possession of an amateur radio license
  • Minimum of one (1) years of professional administrative coordination experience, preferably in a remote environment
  • Minimum of one (1) years in a communication role
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, writing, and communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in using a range of technology, and adeptness in learning new platforms/software
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to create a plan of action for ambiguous or undefined tasks
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, remote workplace

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or other credentials or certifications in related area(s)
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or charitable organization

Location

Remote, within the United States.

Language

English proficiency is required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $56,000 – $60,000 / year
